Until the Next Opportunity

We start off today with a familiar Bible passage, but something new stood out to me the other day when I read the story of the temptation of Jesus in Luke 4. 1 Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness,  Some manuscripts read into the wilderness.   2 where he was tempted by the devil for forty days. Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry. 3 Then the devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become a loaf of bread.” 4 But Jesus told him,  “No! Hiding Behind the Fig Leaves

Early on in the Bible when Adam and Eve sinned, they knew immediately that they had done something wrong. What was the first natural consequence of sin? Lets take a look at Genesis 3:6-7 and see what they did... The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. 7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. So often we try to hide and cover our sins and shortcomings from each other and from the Lord who created us.   Recently, I had a discussion with Amanda, and I finally feel like we were able to take down the "fig leaves" that were hindering us from having open and honest transparency about many areas of our marriage and our lives.   We so often can also try t...
