Hiding Behind the Fig Leaves

Early on in the Bible when Adam and Eve sinned, they knew immediately that they had done something wrong. What was the first natural consequence of sin? Lets take a look at Genesis 3:6-7 and see what they did...
The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. 7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.

So often we try to hide and cover our sins and shortcomings from each other and from the Lord who created us.

Recently, I had a discussion with Amanda, and I finally feel like we were able to take down the "fig leaves" that were hindering us from having open and honest transparency about many areas of our marriage and our lives.

We so often can also try to hide behind "fig leaves" in our relationship with God, instead of going straight to God..admitting that we have fallen short and ask for his forgiveness.  Because of what Jesus has done for us on the cross there is no longer any reason to try to cover up our own sins and shortcomings.  We can hand over our "fig leaves" to our creator and walk unashamed in the freedom that he has created us to walk in.
