I BELIEVE

Image
I want to declare openly to everyone that I believe in God, and I believe Jesus died for the sins of myself and all the world.  God also has his best for you and your life as well.  My hope is that everyone who is listening to me would come to the knowledge of the saving power of Jesus Christ and that you would make him not only your Savior, but the Lord of your life. So what does it mean to make Jesus the "Lord of your Life".  It is very simple..in essence it is saying that I am no longer the ruler of the directions/decisions/thoughts/emotions/behaviors, but I give the ownership of these things to Jesus.  Jesus, you are in the driver's seat of what I say and what I do, and I am no longer going to live for myself, but my life now belongs to you.  I am your servant, and you are my master.   God's plan for you is perfect.  It is time to turn from the your own flawed ways, and turn to His ways which are perfect.  Make Jesus the Lord and Savio...

Until the Next Opportunity

Image
We start off today with a familiar Bible passage, but something new stood out to me the other day when I read the story of the temptation of Jesus in Luke 4. 1 Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness,  Some manuscripts read into the wilderness.   2 where he was tempted by the devil for forty days. Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry. 3 Then the devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become a loaf of bread.” 4 But Jesus told him,  “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone.’  Deut 8:3. ” 5 Then the devil took him up and revealed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.  6 “I will give you the glory of these kingdoms and authority over them,” the devil said, “because they are mine to give to anyone I please.  7 I will give it all to you if you will worship me.” 8 Jesus replied,  “The Scriptures...

Hiding Behind the Fig Leaves

Image
Early on in the Bible when Adam and Eve sinned, they knew immediately that they had done something wrong. What was the first natural consequence of sin? Lets take a look at Genesis 3:6-7 and see what they did... The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. 7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. So often we try to hide and cover our sins and shortcomings from each other and from the Lord who created us.   Recently, I had a discussion with Amanda, and I finally feel like we were able to take down the "fig leaves" that were hindering us from having open and honest transparency about many areas of our marriage and our lives.   We so often can also try t...

Walking with Integrity/Shining light on Hidden Sin

Image
Proverbs 10:8-9: 8 The wise are glad to be instructed, but babbling fools fall flat on their faces. 9 People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed. Proverbs 9:13-18 13 The woman named Folly is brash. She is ignorant and doesn’t know it. 14 She sits in her doorway on the heights overlooking the city. 15 She calls out to men going by who are minding their own business. 16 “Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says, 17 “Stolen water is refreshing; food eaten in secret tastes the best!” 18 But little do they know that the dead are there. Her guests are in the depths of the grave. Food eaten in secret tastes the best..what a lie! what a statement of the sin nature! Too many men and women fall into a trap where they think. "As long as nobody knows this sin or thought I am acting out, no one will know or think anything of it." However, look at what will happen by living a ...

Joy Comes in the Morning

Image
The Word of God is full of hope.  In some seasons or times in your life, it may seem like a hopeless situation, however, God is still with you in those moments.  Let's take a look at Psalm 30, and look to the Word to see how we should look on these kinds of situations. 1 I will exalt you,  lord , for you rescued me. You refused to let my enemies triumph over me. 2 O   lord  my God, I cried to you for help, and you restored my health. 3 You brought me up from the grave,  O   lord . You kept me from falling into the pit of death. 4 Sing to the  lord , all you godly ones! Praise his holy name. 5 For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning. 6 When I was prosperous, I said, “Nothing can stop me now!” 7 Your favor, O   lord , made me as secure as a mountain. Then you turned away from me, and I was shattered. 8 I cried out to you, O ...

Psalms of David

Image
I like reading the Psalms of David.  Not only are they beautifully written, but they attribute so wonderful the different attributes of God and how we relate to God.  I always think about how the David in the Bible was a man after God's own heart.  I strive to be just like David in my relationship.  When I read scriptures like Psalm 23 it makes me introspect on where I am with my relationship with God. A psalm of David. 1 The  lord  is my shepherd; I have all that I need. 2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. 3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. 4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. 5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. 6 Sure...

Not letting go until you see your blessing!

Image
In Genesis 32:22 we read the story of how Jacob has a WWF style match with God, or with one of his angels..The story goes like this.. 22 During the night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two servant wives, and his eleven sons and crossed the Jabbok River with them.  23 After taking them to the other side, he sent over all his possessions. 24 This left Jacob all alone in the camp, and a man came and wrestled with him until the dawn began to break.  25 When the man saw that he would not win the match, he touched Jacob’s hip and wrenched it out of its socket.  26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for the dawn is breaking!” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” 27 “What is your name?” the man asked. He replied, “Jacob.” 28 “Your name will no longer be Jacob,” the man told him. “From now on you will be called Israel,  because you have fought with God and with men and have won.” 29 “Please tell me your name,” Jacob said. “Why do...

Your Season Can Change..Suddenly!

Image
Sometimes we can stay in a season for a long time and see no change, and other times changes can come rapidly and suddenly.   One great example of this in the bible can be found in Genesis chapter 24.  This is the story of how Abraham's servant  Eliezer  went to find a wife for Abraham's son Issac.  Eleizer sought God and prayed for success on finding a wife for Issac. He prayed for a young lady to come out and offer him and his camels water.  If such a lady were to do so, he would know that it she who would become Issac's wife.   Rebekah comes out and does exactly what Eliezer prayed about to the tee..even asking to water the camels just like he asked for in prayer.  Afterward,  Eliezer  gave Rebekah some sweet bracelets and a nose ring, and then spoke to Laban about the marriage to Issac.   Laban and Rebekah both agreed after hearing  Eliezer 's testmony that it was God's will for Rebekah to go with him. This i...

Chasing Away The Vultures

Image
As I was reading my Bible the other day, a part of a story stuck out to me that has never stuck out to me before.  This can be found in Genesis 15:4-11.... 4 Then the  lord  said to him, “No, your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.”  5 Then the  lord  took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!” 6 And Abram believed the  lord , and the  lord  counted him as righteous because of his faith. 7 Then the  lord  told him, “I am the  lord  who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as your possession.” 9 The  lord  told him, “Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”  10 So Abram presented all these to him and killed them. Then he cut each animal down the middl...

What does God want to do with You?

What does God want to do with you?  A question that was asked by my Pastor last Sunday...It got me thinking about all the things God has done with me and what he wants to do with me in the future?  Maybe it is helping someone out in need.  Maybe it is taking on new roles at church or work.  I know I am going to be used to be a father to a growing family.   I want to strive to be what God wants me to be, and to be used for God's plans and purposes for my life.  Sometimes I believe it is not always what you are doing in life ( work, school, play) that is important, but who are you influencing for God's kingdom that is really the important goal in your life.  This is why God calls us to be his ambassadors ( 2 Cor 5:20 )  He can use you wherever you are or whatever stage of life you are in.  It just takes one thing   YOUR COOPERATION. Let God use you this year in 2017, and be his servant.  God can and will do great things through ...
